It Pays to Plan Ahead

Most of us make plans every day of our lives.  We make lists of things we need to do, we plan to go on trips, we make financial plans.   But, how often do we really consider, how our life will turn out because of the plans that we have or have not made?

When I was in high school I often thought about how I wanted my life to turn out.  The only real plan I made was to go to university and study what I was interested in at the time, and the degrees available in that field were limited.  Most of the women my age did not feel that we had many options when selecting a career.  Teaching, nursing or laboratory work, secretarial work or some type of trade, such as cosmetology, were all that were offered.  That was about as far ahead as we could look for careers due to the limited choices that were prevalent.

Today is a different story!  Career choices are wide open for young women just as they are for young men and there is very little, if anything, that women cannot choose to make their careers if they really want to do it.  The training is available for almost anyone!

Over the years that I have worked at Leadership Development Company, I have seen hundreds of young people of all ages come through our office for Life & Career Planning, mainly because their parents sent them in.   A lot of them came in with no idea about what they wanted to do with their lives, despite the fact that they were about to graduate from college.  Often they had already graduated with a degree in something that someone else suggested for them or they chose it because their friend had chosen it.   But, as it turned out, they had no real interest or aptitudes for that career.

Life & Career Planning can help anyone, young and not so young, to gain Focus, Vision, and Confidence which leads them to better choices and decisions about their career and future.

I wish I had had the opportunity to do Life & Career Planning as a young person before I made a lot of bad choices and “just let life happen to me.”
